10 Tips for being less stressed about finances

This is a guest blog by Ann Marie Williams of Atmosphere Consulting

1. Limit purchases.

2. Less focus on "things." Focus on life, family, friends.

3. If something is on sale for 70% off and you don't need it, you just wasted 30%.

4. Organizing closets and other areas help you see what you really need. Many times people waste money by buying items they ALREADY have because they cannot locate them.

5. Don't let late fees and interest payment add up. Pay bills on time.

6. Review your spending....cell phone plans, insurance premiums, etc.

7. Donate unwanted items to charity and obtain a tax receipt. This not only helps you (more peaceful living space and a tax credit) but it also help others who are facing even bigger financial challenges in this environment.

8. Sell, sell, sell. Use Ebay, consignment, Craig's List, etc. to sell items that are no longer important to you.

9. Cancel catalogues that are tempting to make purchases from.

10. Know your financial situation & take control.

I like to spend money. It burns a hole in my pocket. So yesterday, I was looking on line at yoga clothes (as if I need more of those) and then got out a check, wrote it out for the amount of money that the clothes would have cost, and I mailed it to my retirement account. I got the joy of shopping, the satisfying experience of writing a check, and I spent the money on myself and my future! Then I called my retirement acct. company and had them send me a bunch more deposit slips and envelopes so I can be prepared whenever the shopping bug hits.
