On Tuesday, I attended a Train the Trainer event at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Boston Regional Office to learn more about their national financial education campaign. Money Smart is a comprehensive financial education curriculum designed to help individuals outside the financial mainstream develop financial skills and positive banking relationships. What I love about Money Smart is it is simple and easy to use. The program is available in several formats including instructor-led and self taught, with cirriculum for adults as well as adolescents and is available in several languages.
This is a little know program that was launched in 2001 and is getting greater attention given the wake up call many individuals and companies are experiencing as a result of the strained economy. I highly recommend you check it out. It is free upon request and is not copyrighted; therefore you can adapt it to your workforce, school or civic organization. If we all get a little smarter about money, it will be a better more secure place to live in the 2009!
By the way, don't you think KBK should be the spokesperson for the FDIC? They currently have Suze Orman who to the best of my memory is not a former commissioned bank examiner like yours truly. Feel free to cast your vote for me or Suze and lets get our own campaign going!
