Thanksgiving day morning, I opened the door and was met with by two rather large turkeys hollaring at me. Ironic, given the day... Why were they not hiding as Thanksgiving was largely about having them for dinner? The turkeys seemed unfazed by my presence and kept on squawking. I tried to scare them away then ignore them. But these turkeys would not budge.
The incident happend a few days ago and the turkeys, much to my relief are gone. But since their visit, I have been pondering the meaning of the saying, "Do you fly with the turkeys or soar with the eagles?" While I do think these poor fowl get a bad name, I have always thought of myself as an eagle - or at best an eaglette! So why did the turkeys come to say hello? Maybe to say goodbye as I am moving on in my life and in my career. I won't miss them as I hear the ealges are a really good time!
Here is a little quiz that I thought might help you decide who you want to hang out with this coming holiday season and new year:
1. Do you like to make things happen?
2. Do you hide and find yourself saying "If only..."?
3. Do you have BIG ideas about you and your future?
4. Do you charge too little to be nice?
5. Do you walk with confidence into a networking event?
6. Do you forget to ask your current clients for referrals or to pay you?
7. Do you have fun in your life as well as work?
8. Do you regret what you have not done in your career but make no effort to change it?
9. Do you have a vision for your future that is clear, bold and unapologetic?
If you answered "yes" to 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, Congrats you are soaring with the eagles. If you answered "yes" to 2, 4, 6, 8, watch out the turkeys may be headed to your front door unless you embrace change and reach for the stars in the coming years.
KBK Connections, Inc. can help you develop a vision and live your BIG dreams. Don't let a few turkey moments get you down.... I know there is an eagle inside.
In the meantime, if you need to ward off a turkey attack as I did on Thanksgiving Day, here is a great article brought to you by Leanna Hamill, queen of the blog, on the topic.
